La sorcière et son chat volent joyeusement dans le ciel sur un manche à balai lorsque le vent se lève et emporte le chapeau de la sorcière, puis son nœud pour les cheveux, puis sa baguette ! Heureusement, trois animaux trouvent les objets manquants, et tout ce qu’ils veulent en retour, c’est un tour sur le balai. Mais y a-t-il assez de place sur le balai pour tant d’amis ? Et quand une catastrophe se produira, pourront-ils sauver la sorcière d’un dragon affamé ?
La sorcière dans les airs est un album à la prose rythmée (écrit entièrement en alexandrins), dotée d’une structure narrative facile à appréhender pour les élèves. La première partie (la constitution de « l’équipage » du balai) suit un schéma narratif par accumulation. La répétition se retrouve tant dans les images que dans les textes. Puis survient « le problème », le balai se casse, la gentille sorcière se retrouve seule face au dragon. La solution survient rapidement, grâce à l’alliance des amis que la sorcière avait recueillis dans la première partie. Déguisés en monstre, ils font fuir le dragon. La fin est heureuse : avec l’aide de ses amis, la sorcière créée magiquement un balai luxueux, où chacun a sa place et est confortablement installé.
Cet album de Julia Donaldson et Axel Scheffler pourra être complété par le dessin animé. Voici une analyse et une série d’activités en lien avec cet album.
